SAP CEO Christian Klein: the Employees Choice

Last week SAP CEO Christian Klein won an Employees’ Choice award from Glassdoor for the top CEOs of 2021.

Glassdoor is an online organisation that facilitates job seeking and employee reviews of companies. The Employees choice award is based on anonymous feedback on employers over the year.

Klein’s award for a 96% approval rating recognises his status as a leading CEO in Germany and France. The average of the 1.5 million employers on Glassdoor is 76%. In France Klein was rated the Top CEO with a 99% employee approval rating.

The SAP Veteran

Christian Klein’s approval rating among employees would seem a consequence of his long history in the company. Klein started working at SAP in 1999. With 22 years of experience from the ground up his understanding of the employee’s perspective is profound. He was appointed to the executive board in 2018 and took over as Chief Executive Officer in 2020.

Klein’s first year at SAP began just after the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic so has been difficult to say the least. However, his bid to transform not only his own corporation but others is proving fruitful. In January Klein commented:

“When you are doing something for many, many years … people, of course, ask: Why do we now need to change… [with] technology and the products, we will get that done. The mindset, to have a sense of urgency and need for change, that’s key … but there are still parts of the company that need to get better.”

Sharing the Accolade

After an enthusiastic reception of Rise with SAP and a successful Sapphire Now 2021 event, this latest accolade from the employees of SAP, along with a steadily rising SAP share price, is further proof that he is in a strong position to take SAP into the future.

Christian Klein took the opportunity to thank SAP employees for their own hard work over the year:

“Our colleagues are the heart of our success, and they make SAP the great company it is. Of all the things that motivate me to give my best every day, it is undoubtedly the people I have the privilege to work with all over the world. I am grateful to be able to work with such outstanding colleagues, and they inspire me continually with their dedication, ingenuity, and passion.”
